I (Yin) began this exhibition with a simple curiosity:
What can 3D printing bring to sculpture? The outcome has turned into an experiment with time, aging, memory, and the changing physical self. I, therefore, entitled the show “You Are In My Face” , humorous and quite literal.
These enormous faces confront us physically as we walk through the gallery. Our faces change continuously from childhood to old age, yet somehow we continue to recognize ourselves as the same person. 3D printing has a technical term—additive manufacturing.

It turns digital information into a physical object by adding material layer upon layer. Today, 3D printing has moved far beyond the small plastic objects, it can work with resins, metals, ceramics, concrete, and composites, and has begun to enter areas that once seemed impossible – “microscopic architecture” in medicine
now is creating surgical guides, implants, and anatomical models. Similarly, for artists, another kind of “microscopic architecture” happens in the human imagination – in our ability to interpret the visible and invisible parts of the human world. The computer and printer, just as the chisel, welding torch, or casting mold are tools. What matters is not what the machine can make, but what the artist can imagine that was difficult to make before.
Though the technology has been around for decades, we are still at an early stage in discovering its possibilities as an artistic language. In this project, I use this tool not simply to reproduce a sculpture, but to allow the technology itself —its process, limitations, accidents, and possibilities— all become part of the artwork. The exhibition attempts to present the whole truth of this investigative process.

HEARTLESS MAN — WU HSIN BEING

In the Chinese language Wu Hsin (無心) is not interpreted as one without a physical heart, instead it describes a state of living without ego, without constant judgment, without always calculating for oneself, and that’s the state of being the Heartless Man is in.
Standing 21 feet tall and made of fiberglass, THE BEING walks quietly on Earth, casually looking around, with one hand open, the other clenched. Trust and Fear? This giant figure seems to come from another time, from the distant past or future? Would it be possible to be human and walk on Earth like the HEARTLESS MAN?
