In the English language, the title HEARTLESS MAN may sound harsh, it implies someone cruel or without feeling. But Yin is asking you to look in the Chinese language. Hsin (心) in Chinese means heart and mind. The term Wu Hsin (無心) would not be interpreted as a person without a physical heart, instead it describes a state of living without ego, without constant judgment, without always calculating for oneself, and that’s the state of being the Heartless Man is in.
Lao Tzu wrote: “We shape clay into a vessel, but it is the empty space within that makes it useful.” Emptiness is not nothingness. It is what allows everything else to happen.
Standing 21 feet tall and made of fiberglass, THE HEARTLESS MAN — WU HSIN BEING walks quietly on Earth, casually looking around, with one hand open and the other clenched. Like all human beings, he carries both trust and fear—the two essentials that have helped our species survive. Slightly to the left of his chest where the heart would normally be is a hollow. The heart is missing.
This giant figure seems to come from another time. Perhaps from the distant past. Perhaps from the future with another title “The Cyberman touches the Earth”. The important thing is that he walks on our world without judgement, although in contradiction, he does gesture Trust and Fear. Would it be possible to be human and walk on Earth like the HEARTLESS MAN?
