Made by Yin Peet this sculpture is the early aspiration of Yin’s approaching sculpture not simply as a three-dimensional art, but as a four-dimensional one. The fourth dimension is time—not because the sculpture moves, but because you do.

At first glance, you see a baby on one side and an adult on the other. But neither figure is the true subject. The artwork is the gradual transformation between them.

There is no single best viewpoint. As you move through 360 degrees, the baby slowly grows into an adult, and the adult gradually returns to the baby. The sculpture itself remains still, yet through your movement, time becomes part of the artwork.

This piece marked an important turning point in Yin’s artistic journey. As a figurative sculptor rather than pursuing anatomical perfection, Yin is more interested in expressing ideas through the human figure—ideas about time, change, and transformation.

During the 1990s, Yin was creating performance art, where time is an essential part of the work. That experience led Yin to an important realization: sculpture does not have to move to express time. If the viewer moves, time enters the sculpture.

Becoming is about more than growing from childhood into adulthood. It reminds us that life is a continuous process of becoming. The sculpture remains still, but its meaning comes alive through your journey around it.
