SYMPOSIUM 2024

In its 13th year, three key Symposium artists- David Adilman, Marin Murakoshi, and Yin Peet – were joined by Syrian artist Dankha Zomaya. David carved his 3rd piece – Big Dog, Marin her 5th – Dragon, and Yin her 8th – Portrait of Loise Bourgeois on the stone pile. Dankha’s PEACE-ASHURPANIPAL, rooted in ancient Assyrian soil, seeks to bridge historical references with the spirit of celebrated heroes, as well as assassins, invaders, and conquerors. Born in 685BC, the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal, renowned for his deep interest in Mesopotaman litrary culture, is best remembered for founding the first library. At its height, his library housed over 100,000 texts – an achievement unmatched until the Library of Alexandria was built centuries later.
